Russell Brand was arrested by New Orleans police yesterday following a report earlier in the week that he snatched a paparazzo's cell phone and tossed it through a law firm's window.

Brand faces a charge of criminal damage in connection with the incident that occurred on Monday. A photographer was using his iPhone to take pictures of the British actor-comedian who is in New Orleans filming a movie. Brand was released shortly after being arrested.

It was reported earlier this week that Brand paid $240 to repair the smashed window.

Brand tweeted the following about the incident on Wednesday: "Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory."
