Journeyman backup quarterback Chase Daniel is returning to the New Orleans Saints on a one-year deal. It marks a return to the franchise where he spent the first 4 years of his NFL career.

Daniel was an undrafted rookie free agent with Washington in 2009, but didn't make the Redskins final roster. He signed with the Saints shortly thereafter, earning a spot on the Super Bowl roster as the 3rd string quarterback.

Daniel signed with Kansas City in 2013, serving as Alex Smith's backup for 3 years.

In March of 2016, Daniel signed a 3 year, $21 million deal with Philadelphia. $10 million of the contract was guaranteed.

He requested and was granted his release from the Eagles two weeks ago. Philadelphia still owes him $5 million this season, and will pay whatever amount isn't covered in his one year deal with the Saints. For example, if the Saints are paying him $1 million this year, the Eagles would pay him $4 million.

New Orleans currently has veteran Luke McCown and third year pro Garrett Grayson as backup QBs to Drew Brees. Daniel's signing could spell the end of one of the two's time with the Saints.
