The New Orleans Saints (2-3) held off the Carolina Panthers (1-5) last Sunday in a wild 41-38 ballgame that had its share of momentum shifts.

Carolina never led, but tied the game at 38 with a few minutes left.

New Orleans drove into Panthers territory, setting up rookie kicker Will Lutz for a 52 yard field goal. It sailed through the uprights, and Lutz earned some recognition from the NFL for his efforts.

He was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week today, the first Saints rookie to receive the honor.

The last member of the Saints to win the award was former kicker Shayne Graham nearly two years ago. Graham was cut by the Saints in May of 2015.

Lutz and the Saints are hoping his future with the team plays out differently. Head coach Sean Payton has raved about the leg strength of the 22 year old who signed with the team days before the season opener.

On the season, Lutz is 7 of 11 on field goal attempts and 18 out of 18 on PATs.
