New Orleans Saints linebackers coach Joe Vitt is 61 years old, but suffered injuries over the weekend like he was playing on the field, not coaching from the sideline.

As first reported by CanalStreetChronicles.com, Vitt played defense on his street in Metarie early Saturday morning.

After seeing suspicious shadows outside his home on Old Metarie Road, Vitt went outside to find a burglar breaking into his neighbor's vehicle. He then noticed a burglar in his own vehicle.

Both burglars fled the scene on foot, but Vitt pursued, running after the culprits. However, he tripped while in pursuit, breaking his wrist and tearing his achilles heel, according to Saints spokesman Greg Bensel as reported by ESPN's Mike Triplett. He did not miss a single day of work as a result of the injuries.

Vitt had to treat his injuries at the hospital.
