Hokie Gajan, the Louisiana born New Orleans Saints running back, who became a beloved Saints radio announcer has passed away at the age of 56.

Last fall, Gajan was diagnosed with liposarcoma, a rare form of cancer. This caused him to step away from his usual broadcaster's mic last season.

Fans and friends stood by him in his fight with cancer.

Howard Lee "Hokie" Gajan, who was given the second nickname the "Bayou Bowling Ball" by quarterback Ken Stabler, prided himself on having a Louisiana only football career. Playing high school, college, and professional football all in his home state.

After injuries ended his football career, he became a scout for the Saints. That then rolled over into radio color commentary, where his quick wit, and natural fit made him a broadcast great.

RIP Hokie Gajan
