Newly acquired New Orleans Saints long snapper Jon Dorenbos has been placed on the non-football injury list after an aortic aneurysm was discovered in his heart, requiring open heart surgery.

Dorenbos joined the Saints after New Orleans traded for him with Philadelphia in exchange for a 7th round draft pick.

Dorenbos, known outside of football as a successful magician, is fortunate the trade took place, prompting an automatic physical to clear the trade. It was during a follow-up physical that Saints medical personnel discovered the pre-existing condition, in essence, saving his life.

Head coach Sean Payton noted today the team is bringing in long snappers for tryouts. Whoever the long snapper is Monday night in the week 1 matchup at Minnesota, he will be the 4th long snapper the Saints have used since the beginning of training camp.

According to Payton, the Saints will attempt to rescind the trade of Donrenbos due to his issue being a pre-existing condition, thus recouping the 2018 7th round draft pick.
