New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton revealed on his weekly radio show Monday night that veteran backup quarterback Matt Flynn has signed with the team.

The Flynn signing comes on the heels of second string quarterback Luke McCown's lower back injury that will require season-ending surgery.

With McCown heading to IR, a roster spot and need for a veteran backup quarterback opens the door for Flynn to earn another NFL paycheck.

Flynn spent training camp and preseason with the New York Jets, but was cut when New York trimmed their roster down to 53. He sent out a tweet this evening, confirming the news of signing with New Orleans.

Flynn played collegiately at LSU, winning a national championship as the starting quarterback in his senior season of 2007.

He spent the beginning of his NFL career in Green Bay as Aaron Rodgers backup, before signing with the Seattle Seahawks. However, he was beat out for the starting position by Russell Wilson in Wilson's rookie year. Flynn also spent time as the brief starter for the Oakland Raiders, before returning to Green Bay as Rodgers backup, while also spending time as a backup in Buffalo.
