Despite the need for edge rushers, the Saints gave up future assets to select a running back in the third round.

Tennessee running back Alvin Kamara is the newest member of the Saints after they selected him in the 3rd round (67th overall).

New Orleans gave San Francisco their 2018 2nd round pick and 7th round pick this year for the 67th pick.

Kamara projects as a 3rd down back, putting veteran Travaris Cadet on notice as his possible (and probable) replacement.

He joins veteran running backs Mark Ingram and newly signed Adrian Peterson in the Saints backfield.

Kamara's not powerful, but he's shifty, something New Orleans will need from him as a 3rd down back.

While at Tennessee, he was one of the best backs in college football in yards after the catch, reeling in the majority of his receptions within 2.5 yards of the line of scrimmage.

He battled through knee injuries last season, spraining his LCL and hurting his meniscus.

Splitting time in the backfield with the Vols, he never carried a heavy workload.

Last season, he ran the ball 103 times for 596 yards and 9 touchdowns, while catching 40 passes for 392 yards and 4 scores.
