Saints Trim Roster To 53, List Of Cuts Here

Today, the New Orleans Saints cut their roster down to mandated 53.

Second year cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste (pictured), the team's second round pick in 2014, was released today as first reported by ESPN's Field Yates. Viewed as a project, Baptiste did not display the growth a team who invested a second round pick in him needed to see.

The cut is a reminder of how disappointing the Saints 2014 draft class was. One draft pick from 2014 remains on the active roster in Brandin Cooks.

Backup quarterback Ryan Griffin is among the notable cuts. The former Tulane QB has been a project of Sean Payton's the last two seasons. He is still eligible for the practice squad if he clears waivers, where he has spent time the last two seasons.

Former Louisiana Ragin' Cajun linebacker Justin Anderson was waived. As a late training camp addition, his chances of making the 53 man roster were tough, but with his former college defensive  coordinator James Willis on the Saints staff as LB coach, Anderson may be a strong candidate for the practice squad.

Veteran defensive end Parys Haralson has started numerous games the last two seasons, but got the phone call today that he was being released.

Kicker Dustin Hopkins was cut, meaning the Saints have kept kicker Zach Hocker. Hocker played collegiately at Arkansas, spending last preseason with Washington. However, he has yet to kick in a regular season game, but will have his opportunity a week from Sunday as the New Orleans kicker.
