Fresh seafood isn't a luxury in Louisiana. It's a way of life. If Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser has his way Louisiana seafood will continue to grow and become a way of life across the country and across the world.

Nungesser said that our seafood industry is responsible for more than 850 million pounds of seafood annually. If you were to combine the economic impact of our seafood production with the economic impact of our state's tourism you'd be looking at about $14 billion in economic impact.

Nungesser believes the two industries should really be working together since they have a certain synergy between them.

We’re partnering with the Louisiana Seafood Board and the tourism folks in Louisiana to start jointly promoting the great seafood we have here in Louisiana and the great time you can have here while you eat it.

In his comments to the Louisiana Radio Network, the Lieutenant Governor suggested that even bigger ideas were about to be unveiled on the natural marriage between Louisiana Seafood and Louisiana Tourism.

We’re going to get people to sign up, Facebook and use the internet for them to take pictures of what they love about Louisiana, both seafood, the food and all the great tourist attractions across the state.

This is a program that all of us in Louisiana have a reason to get behind. In fact, we the people can be the driving force behind it. The best news besides the billions of dollars in economic impact for our state is that if we the people handle the grass roots promotion, it won't cost our state a dime. If you haven't checked lately our state doesn't have a dime for this and a lot of other things.

And what a force that will be to reckon with to have all of our citizens sharing the great things about Louisiana and the great food with people around the country and around the world.

Let's face it, if we want our state to succeed it's going to be up to us to make it so. The politicians don't seem to have the answers but kudos to Mr. Nungesser and his staff. I think they are on to an incredibly good idea.
