The promise of a beautiful fall weekend is being preceded by a potential for severe weather across much of Acadiana. At 2am Friday morning severe weather watches and warning have been posted for much of the area. The current threat for severe weather and heavy thunderstorms is along and north of U.S. Highway 190.

The current radar scan from the National Weather Service shows a large area of moderate to heavy rain pushing from west to east across much of Acadiana. Embedded in this area of rain is a line of very heavy thunderstorms. These storms could produce strong gusty winds, frequent lightning, and small hail as they move through.

A severe thunderstorm watch is posted for all of Acadiana until 5am. It is expected by that time the threat of severe weather will have moved through the area. Those that live to the east of the Atchafalaya Basin can expect these watches and warnings to be extended as necessary.
