Last weekend was Easter weekend, the unofficial beginning of Spring. Mother Nature is taking her cues for springtime tradition as well. The months of April, May, and June are traditionally active months for severe weather across Louisiana and the forecast for Friday and Saturday seems to agree with that ideology.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire state of Louisiana under at least a marginal threat for severe storms and tornadoes during the day and evening. The best chance for the heaviest weather will be concentrated along the I-20 corridor including the cities of Shreveport and Monroe and southward to include Alexandria.

From Alexandria southward to I-10 the SPC is projecting a slight risk of storms elevating to severe limits during the forecast period. For residents generally along and south of I-10, the severe threat diminishes to marginal.

Weather forecast models seem to suggest that South Louisiana's greatest threat for severe storms will come during the early morning hours of Saturday. The system responsible for this severe weather threat will be pushing through the state from the northwest to the southeast. That means areas to the north should experience the heavier weather long before Acadiana residents will notice the thunder and lightning.

Cloudy skies and cooler temperatures will remain in the area behind the storm system on Saturday and Sunday. While the weekend won't be a total washout there will still be a lingering threat for showers on both weekend days.
