Some bars in Lafayette may soon be smoke-free if a revision to a previous ordinance is passed.

Back in May, the Lafayette Parish City Council voted 5-4 against a smoking ban in bars/clubs. Now, a councilman who was with the majority is helping revise the ordinance he voted against to just include bars with "live music."

Those bars or clubs that don't have live music would be exempt from having to enforce a smoke free environment.

Don Bertrand, who is the councilman helping revise this proposal, may have the swing vote to implement smoke-free environments in some bars in the parish of Lafayette.

According to the Advocate, the vote will go before the council on September 1st.

We ask, what do you think about this revision? Should bars that just host live music entertainment be forced to implement a smoke free environment? Let us know what you think in the comment section below.
