The system that offers a full online school program in St. Martin Parish will be expanding.

Last year, there were 240 students between seventh and twelfth grades that took advantage of the online school program offered through the district.

The program will now be offered to students in first through sixth grades.

Superintendent Lottie Beebe says she believes the program is a way to bring home-schooled and private school students back into the school system.

Beebe says they agreed to expand the program based on the amount of requests by parents.  She says another reason for the decision to expand the program is because it has been so successful.

The superintendent says figures show that 130 students in St. Martin Parish are home-schooled and about 230 attend private schools.
