61-year-old Paul Broussard of St. Martinville faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder after a dispute over rent money went too far.

St. Martinville Police Chief Calder Hebert tells our news partners at KATC Broussard went to a rental home to help the elderly landlord with collecting rent money from the tenants. The situation escalated then, but Broussard left the rental home.

Later on, the tenant and her husband went to the landlord's house to resolve the situation, but this time were allegedly threatened by Broussard with a knife, according to police.

Fortunately, no one was harmed.

Broussard is also charged with aggravated assault, resisting an officer, interfering with a law enforcement investigation, failure to appear and issuing worthless checks. He sits in the St. Martin Parish Jail.
