ST. MARY PARISH, La. (KPEL) — Closing bells at schools in St. Mary Parish will ring 15 minutes later than normal as school officials work to make up lost time after schools were forced to close down due to severe weather the last two days.

School system officials say15 minutes will be added to the next 49 school days, thus making up 735 minutes of lost instruction time prior to Phase II accountability exams which begin April 8.

Adding the extra minutes will allow students to make up the missed time without having to add extra days to the school calendar.
