There was once a time where taking photographs took a long time to do. Not the actually photography part, the getting film developed, and hoping you actually captured the image you wanted to capture part is what really took the most time.

Now almost everyone has a pretty good camera in their telephone and Louisiana's Commissioner of Insurance, Jim Donelon, suggests that you use that camera. Pictures truly do speak a thousand words when it comes to verifying your claims.  Donelon also says there are other things you need to do in addition to taking photographs.

Document their loss with pictures, with a list of their approximate value of the damage, the repair cost.

In his comments to the Louisiana Radio Network Donelon also suggested that minimizing damage to your home now could help save money and time in the long run.

If you have wet carpeting, you should tear it out as soon as it is safe and reasonable to do so.

Donelon also suggests the same advice Judge Wapner would give on The People's Court TV show. Make sure you save and have your receipts for as many of the damaged items as you can.
