Johnny Cash, Rock and Roll legend, member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, and all around cool cat, would have been 80 years old this month.

There will be a groundbreaking on a project to preserve Cash's childhood home in Dyess, Ark., on Feb. 26, his birthday. A new Cash museum will open in Nashville later this year and several music releases are expected to commemorate the anniversary of his birth. There are three documentaries in the works as well.

I never met Johnny, but I did meet his wife, June Carter Cash, here in Lafayette when she was filming "The Apostle" in 1996. I would have liked to have seen Johnny Cash kick out some footlights, but alas, not in the cards for me. Happy Birthday to the Man in Black....still the king of cool.
