This is a busy weekend for many families in South Louisiana. There is the specter that is the first day of school that for some is less than five days away. There is an international youth baseball tournament being held in Youngsville too. That's just scratching the surface of what's on the calendar.

Mother Nature will likely be raining on at least a few shopping trips this weekend and I wouldn't be surprised if the baseball games had to take a break or two because of inclement weather and most importantly lightning.

Rain chances for much of South Louisiana are in the slightly above average for this time of year category. Let's face it, those of us who live here know that you always plan for an afternoon thunderstorm during the Summer months.

Forecasters believe most of the shower and thunderstorm activity will form along the coast early this morning. A quick glance at the National Weather Service radar bears that prognostication out. Look for storms to form along the sea breeze and move inland during the course of the day.

The good news is that areas that receive a shower or thunderstorm will also enjoy the benefits of slightly cooler temperatures, at least for a little while. Severe weather is not forecast for the area although the potential for cloud to ground lightning, gusty storm winds, and heavy downpours are certainly prevalent in any of the thunderstorms that pop up today and Sunday.
