Louisiana catcher Michael Strentz broke out of a 3-34 slump with three hits, including a mammoth two run homer to lead the second ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns to a 10-8 win over Southeastern Louisiana for their 41st win of the season.

Strentz reached base in all four plate appearances with a walk, double, homer and single.  He scored twice and drove in two runs to lead the Cajuns' 13 hit attack.  His home run, into the pine trees in left field, capped a four run fifth inning which staked the Cajuns to a 9-4 lead.

Caleb Adams, Ryan Leonards and Chase Compton also had two hits apiece for the Cajuns.  Seth Harrison drove in two runs, giving him a league-leading 51 RBI on the season.

Ben Carter (1-0) got the win for Louisiana (41-6).  He pitched 2.1 innings, allowing four hits and one run.

Gabe von Rosenberg (1-1), pitched the first two innings and was tagged with the loss.  He allowed five runs and five hits.

The Cajuns, now 20-0 when scoring in the first inning, drew first blood on a single by Adams and a double by Leonards.  Harrison's ground ball got the first run home and Jace Conrad's two out single plated Leonards to give the Cajuns an early 2-0 lead.

Southeastern (27-19) came back against Louisiana starter Reagan Bazar, making his first career start.  Sam Roberson led off with a single, his first of three hits on the night.  Kyle Cedotal walked and Lafayette native Kennon Menard delivered Roberson with a double to get the Lions on the board.  Jacob Williams' ground ball scored Cedotal and Jacob Seward's sacrifice fly got Menard home to give Southeastern a short lived 3-2 lead.

The Cajuns came right back in their half of the second when Strentz walked with one out.  Adams walked and Leonards' single scored Strentz.  The throw to third attempting to get Adams went awry, allowing the Cajuns' left fielder to score and moving Leonards to third.  Harrison's sacrifice fly capped the three run inning.

The Lions closed to within one run in the fifth on a double by Andrew Godbold and a single by Brett Hoffman.  After Carter struck out Roberson, reliever Connor Toups walked Cedotal to load the bases.  Matt Plitt came on and got Menard on a fly ball to end the inning.

The Cajuns answered with a four run fifth, with Blake Trahan's single off reliever Gage Pickett scoring Dylan Butler, who had walked. Compton's double plated Trahan and Strentz then greeted reliever Jason Greenleaf with his blast to left.  It was Strentz' seventh homer of the season.

Louisiana added another run without a hit in the sixth when pinch hitter Greg Davis walked, stole second, went to third on an error by first baseman Jameson Fisher and scored on another error by Cedotal in left field.

Plitt breezed through the sixth, but ran into trouble in the seventh.  Godbold led off with a walk, and advanced on Hoffman's single.  Daniel Midyett walked to load the bases and Roberson then turned on a pitch and homered down the left field line for a grand slam that cut the lead to the final margin.

Freshman Riley Cooper came on and retired six of the seven men he faced in the seventh and eighth.

Harrison, who saved three games for the Cajuns a year ago before an elbow injury which required off season surgery, made his first appearance of the season in the ninth and allowed one hit, striking out the side for his first save of the season.

Roberson had three hits and four RBI to lead the Lions, who lost their sixth straight game.  Hoffman also had three hits for Southeastern, who collected 25 hits in the two games against the Cajuns.

Louisiana now travels to Jonesboro, Arkansas to take on the second place Arkansas State Red Wolves in a three game Sun Belt series this weekend.  Game times are 6pm Friday and Saturday and 1pm on Sunday.  All three games will be heard on News/Talk 96.5 KPEL-FM.
