29-year-old Allen Norris from Cedar Hill, Texas, has been arrested after he allegedly walked into the State Police Troop I headquarters with a stolen handgun taken from the New Orleans Police Department.

Spokesman Trooper Jared Sandifer says Norris walked through the front doors of Troop I, went up to the front desk and told Troopers there he wanted to turn himself in because he had warrants out of other states and that he wanted to take his own life. Once troopers noticed that Norris was open-carrying a Glock pistol in a leather holster on his right hip. That's when he was taken into custody.

"Because of significant security measures in place at Troop I, no threat was posed to Troopers or civilians working in the Troop," says Sandifer.

Sandifer says Norris' criminal history shows him to be a convicted felon and that he had active warrants out of Alabama for attempted arson, out of Missouri for a probation violation and another warrant out of Virginia. In addition to being arrested for the active warrants, Norris has also been charged with Illegal Possession of Stolen Things and Possession of Firearm or Carrying Concealed Weapon by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies.

Norris now sits in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

Police continue to investigate.
