Claude Payne and Clifton Payne are recovering in the hospital after an argument turned into gunshots early Sunday morning in Opelousas, according to our news partners at KATC.

When officers with the Opelousas Police Department arrived at the scene in the 400 block of Franklin Street, they say 31-year-old Cody McLendon was found with a .45 caliber handgun and Claude Payne and Clifton Payne were found with gunshot wounds to the hand and the head, respectively.

Investigators say it's believed the shooting happened after the two Payne men showed up at McLendon's Franklin Street home after McLendon left two separate locations before the incident. After the argument, that's when officers say the two shots were fired.

Charges have not  been filed yet as the investigation continues. Call Opelousas Police at 337-948-2500 if you have any information.
