Nobody really talked about the Super Bowl halftime shows back when Carol Channing or the University of Michigan Marching Band performed. As the years passed, though, the Big Game became an even Bigger Event. And with the cost to air a commercial zooming, the NFL knew it had to keep audiences tuned in during the break. As a result, bigger acts were signed, more elaborate sets were performed, and, in some cases, ratings for halftime shows actually beat the game itself.
