About 20 children in the foster care system attended a pizza party yesterday sponsored by Buck and Johnny's Pizzeria in Breaux Bridge. The kids were asked to use art and poetry to express what being adopted would mean to them. Lavontray, an 8th grader who's been in the system for 5 years now, put his feelings into song and I'm now a teary mess.

Today, a friend and I were joking around making Cajun versions of classic fairy tales like "Jack And The Beanstalk", "Goldilocks And The Three Bears" and more. Carson Boutte turned 9-years-old over the weekend. Normally, that means a party with friend, family, presents and cake. And that's exactly what this young man chose to do instead.
Zhorie'l Tapo, a first-grader at Plantation Elementary in Lafayette, is one of the grand prize winners for The Leader in Me Student Speech Contest. She, along with students in other age brackets, won a $500 Leadership Grant. Nearly 250 students participated in the nationwide contest.
