Ready or not, 2019 is here! When it comes to celebrating the new year in South Louisiana, we have definitely have a few quirky ways and traditions. That being said, we don't have anything like what other folks do around the world to celebrate.

As I have grown older I have found less and less I could depend on in life. One of the sure bets that I have found over the years is this, On New Year's Day I will eat Black Eyed Peas, Rice and Cabbage and there will be a football game to watch on television. In Mississippi we called it Hoppin' John, you might call it that too. Why do we eat it on New Year's Day?

George Strait sings " I sure do love those Christmas Cookies" in his holiday classic "Christmas Cookies". There is nothing like the smell of fresh baked cookies to bring the holidays alive in the eyes and hearts of kids of all ages. My personal favorite involves Oreo's, Cream Cheese and both of my kids to put it all together.
