The Department of Environmental Quality has issued an air quality action day today for the Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas due to conditions being favorable for the production of ground-level ozone, or smog.
Governor Edwards is seeking federal assistance to help pay for the nearly $6 million in preliminary uninsured damages to Ruston from an EF-3 tornado. Edwards says unfortunately because of bureaucratic rules, it might be a while before the federal dollars arrive.
While Lafayette Parish Public Schools are closed this week, private schools are in session. However, with the threat looming of severe weather, there are reports of some schools closing a day early.
Because of the imminent threat of flooding along the Mississippi and Atchafalaya River, St. Martin Parish President Chester Cedars has declared a State of Emergency for the parish.
