When the band director for Talladega College in Alabama asked for an on-the-spot audition in the parking lot, these Northside High School seniors stepped right up.

The Viking Band was in Atlanta participating in the Clark Atlanta Band Brawl—a band showcase that features some of the best high school bands in the nation. Northside High School was one of the featured bands, and one college band director took special notice.

As Northside loaded up the busses to head back to Louisiana, Talladega Band Director Professor Miguel Bonds asked Northside's Band Director if he could see his seniors play.

Alexander Thomas said his kids were all about it.

He wanted to hear my kids play immediately. For a High School band member it is an honor to play before a college band director. The kids were eager and ready.

The Northside High School senior band members performed for Bonds in that parking lot and he was so impressed the Talladega Band Director offered them scholarships on the spot.

According to Black Boot Media, at least six of the seniors have accepted the scholarship offer from Talladega. Thomas says he's had students attend the school before, but never like this.

This has never happened before. We have had students to choose to go to the same college but I have never seen a college band director honor every senior in the band with the opportunity to attend college on a scholarship at the same time.

Talladega's band is the "highlight" of their university and most recently "The Marching Tornado" was featured on a national platform when the played the inauguration of United States President Donald Trump.

Congrats to the Northside High School students, and good luck at Talladega!
