Tanya Tucker Hospitalized, Postpones Florida Show
Tanya Tucker is in the hospital after postponing a show in Florida that was originally scheduled for Friday (March 11).
The 57-year-old country icon was scheduled to play at the Florida Strawberry Festival in Tampa Bay at 3:30PM on Friday, but was forced to postpone the gig when she came down with bronchitis so bad that she had to be hospitalized.
Festival organizers broke the news on Thursday afternoon (March 10), Patch reports. "Ms. Tucker has been admitted to the hospital due to complications from bronchitis," Florida Strawberry Festival General Manager Paul Davis says in a statement. "She hates to disappoint her fans but needs to focus on her health."
"I never want to postpone or cancel a show, however, if I am going to perform for the fans who spent their hard-earned money on a ticket, I want to give them the best performance possible," Tucker writes in a post to her Facebook page Friday. "Right now, I am just not able to do it as I have bronchitis. I look forward to performing and seeing the fans real soon."
Local news station Bay News 9 reports that John Anderson has stepped up to fill in for Tucker. His hits include "Swingin'," "Seminole Wind" and "Straight Tequila Night." According to the festival's website, Cole Swindell will also perform Friday night, while Kris Kristofferson and the Band Perry are among the acts slated for the weekend roster.
Tucker returned to recording and touring in 2015 after several years away from the spotlight, during which she battled depression after the deaths of her parents, as well as a cosmetic procedure that went terribly wrong.
“I probably spent half a million dollars on doctors,” she told Closer Weekly. “I took medications, did shock treatments and tried everything with the exception of being put into a straitjacket."
In an interview with Dan Rather, Tucker said she believed the power of prayer had helped her get over depression.
