Head Coach Ed Oreron was once the head coach at Ole Miss where he went 10-25 in three years. He's gotten another opportunity as a head coach and so far he's been making the most of it at LSU. Today he got one of his most satisfying victories of his career, beating Ole Miss in their house 40-24 for their third straight victory.

In this game the Tigers were extremely efficient in their scoring attack. In fact, they scored on 8 of their 11 possessions and Danny Etling did what Danny Etling needs to do for this offense to be effective. Etling was 9/13 for 200 yards and two touchdowns. In addition, LSU's top receiver D.J. Chark didn't even have a reception in this contest.

The running game was the real big factor in this game as Derrius Guice cut up the Ole Miss defense all night long. He ended up totaling 276 yards on 22 carries and a score which was the third best rushing game in LSU history yardage wise. Guice surpassed his performance against Arkansas last season.

Fun fact, Guice is the first player in SEC history to run for 250+ yards three times. Three other players have done it twice: Bo Jackson (Auburn), Herschel Walker (Georgia), Moe Williams (Kentucky).

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention back-up senior running back Darrel Williams who had a very effective game as well. He also totaled over 200 yards, only his production came split between the ground and the air. On 22 carries he accumulated 103 yards and through the air he was the leading receiver catching four passes for 105 yards. If you're doing the math at home that's a total of 208 yards on the day.

You have to give credit to the offensive line in this game as they were able to outmatch the Ole Miss defensive line and open massive running lanes for both running backs.

We can not forget about the defense in this game as well. The defensive line made life hard on Rebels quarterback Shea Patterson and even knocking him out of the game for a while in which he was able to return. The Tigers defense ended up with three sacks, five tackles for loss, and three interceptions.

The Tigers got out to a 10-3 lead after the first quarter in this one and outscored the Rebels in the second half 27-18. The biggest factor for LSU in this game was the fact that they were able to continue to score on every possession except for one in that second half.

The Tigers will head into a bye week at 6-2 overall and 3-1 in SEC play. The big test will come after the bye as they'll face an unbeaten Alabama squad on Saturday, November 4th.
