Garth! We can't wait to see you in New Orleans in July! I do a contest every day at 4:30 called 'The Bark Back Game - Going Back in Country Music History', so I thought I would give you a little info about one of the most controversial songs / videos in country music history. Garth Brooks 'The Thunder Rolls' was the 4th single off the 'No Fences' CD in 1991, and believe it or not, it was originally recorded by Tanya Tucker! The song appears on Tanya's self-titled 1995 box set, and was never released as a single. A video was made, and according to Wikipedia - In May, 1991, the day after the official video release, TNN, The Nashville Network, banned the video. CMT also pulled it out of rotation, with a CMT representative commentating that the network was "in business to entertain, not to promote or condone gratuitous violence or social issues." In an unprecedented move,VH-1, which usually aired pop and rock videos, announced that THEY would play 'The Thunder Rolls. It ended up winning the CMA 'Video of the Year' award later that year, and Garth Brooks won 'Entertainer of the Year' that same night.
