It sure is a good time of year in south Louisiana if you want to get out and do things with the family.

This weekend will have some challenges with the weather though if you don't like the cold. Highs both Saturday and Sunday will only top out in the mid-50s. But Saturday should be rain-free.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9

"SHREK THE MUSICAL": 7 pm Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, University of Louisiana, Fletcher Hall, 150 Girard Park Drive, Lafayette. Featuring a full cast and production from the Music Academy of Acadiana theater students. $15.

DOWNTOWN ALIVE: 6 pm, Samantha Fish at Rock 'n' Bowl de Lafayette. Concert moved inside due to impending inclement weather. Free.

PORT BARRE CRACKLIN FESTIVAL: Through Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park, 129 Park Street, Port Barre. Live music, cracklin cook-off, parade, rides and games, pageants and more. Admission is $5, Kids under 10 are free. CracklinFest.com

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10

37th ANNUAL CAJUN CUP: 8:05 am, 201 E. Vermilion St, Lafayette. The 10K will start on Johnston Street near Jackson and starts and finishes in downtown Lafayette. CajunRoadrunners.com/Cajun-Cup/

CARENCRO VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION: 9 am - 1 pm, Carencro City Hall, 210 St. Peter Street, Carencro. This year's art walk and Veterans' Memorial Celebration will be held behind Carencro City Hall. The Veterans' Memorial Program will begin at 10 am. Patriotic music will be performed live beginning at 11:15 am.

MILTON MARKET: 9 am - 3 pm, Milton Middle School, 222 W. Milton Avenue. Holiday shopping which includes homemade crafts, Christmas decorations and more. A benefit for Milton Elementary & Middle. Food is available for purchase. Take pictures with Santa! Entry fee is $1 per adult; children get in free.

FESTIVAL DE SUCCESS 2018: 10 am, Parc International, 200 Garfield St., Lafayette. A free event for people with special needs and their families. There will be free food, crafts, music and inspiring success stories.

2ND SATURDAY ARTWALK: 6 pm, Downtown Lafayette. Take a tour of the galleries during 2nd Saturday ArtWalk as the Downtown comes alive with more than a dozen galleries, museums restaurants and shops offering live music, food, drink and art for purchase.

6TH ANNUAL COLLARNARY COOK-OFF: 6 pm, Vermilionville, 300 Fisher Road, Lafayette. Acadiana area priests will show off their culinary expertise and prepare their own authentic Cajun Gumbo for you to taste and vote. CollarnaryCookoff.com.

VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION: 7 pm, Cajundome, 444 Cajundome Blvd., Lafayette. All proceeds will benefit the Veterans' Memorial at Moncus Park. Music by On Call. $20, Veterans free with ID. Food and drink available for purchase.

RAGIN' CAJUNS FOOTBALL: 4 pm, Cajun Field. Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns host Georgia State in a crucial Sun Belt Conference game. Tickets available at the Cajundome Box Office or at the Russo Park box office on game day. RaginCajuns.com
