Acadiana's hometown racetrack, Evangeline Downs, is fast earning the reputation as the cradle of greatness. This Saturday the youths of the thoroughbred division  will get their chance in the spotlight in the $100,000 D.S. "Shine" Young Futurity.

According to the public relations department at the track, this years field is full for the event and promises to be one of the most exciting events at this year's live thoroughbred meet. The futurity features two divisions, the fillies and the geldings and colts, basically it's the boys and the girls.

Each division will be run at the distance of 5 ½ furlongs on the main track, and as the first big money events of the season for the babies both have drawn full fields with the fillies oversubscribed with eighteen entered for the race with twelve drawing starting berths and an additional two on the also-eligible list in case of any late scratches, and the colts & geldings division also listed with the maximum twelve starters.

Anticipated post time for the Fillies division will be 8:49 on Saturday night, while the colts and geldings are anticipated to leave the gate at 9:43. These times are subject to change. First post at Evangeline Downs on Saturday evening is 5:40pm
