Thousands Take Advantage Of Early Voting
Has anyone ever asked why we hold elections on a Tuesday? The short answer is Jesus and money. Like a lot of things election days, rules, and traditions were built around the standards of another era.
Today people don't have to travel days at a time to go vote. They can whisk in and out and thanks to early voting, they have no excuse for not letting their voice be heard.
Over 200-thousand Louisiana voters took advantage of early voting for the upcoming November 4th elections. There were nearly 74-thousand residents who voted on the final day alone. Compared to 2012 early voting totals this years elections about 120-thousand voters short.
The Secretary of State's office says voter turn out in 2012 was 68% and this year it's expected to be considerably less with out the nationwide appeal of a presidential election.Still this number was encouraging to Secretary of State Tom Schedler, earlier in the week he had suggested that voter turnout would be around 45% on November 4th. The early voting numbers have given him good reason to be a little more optimistic about voter apathy. His revised forecast is now a projected voter turnout of 54%.
Election day is Tuesday and the polls around the state will open at 6am.
