Tom Brady threw for 185 yards and a touchdown, and the New England Patriots outlasted the New York Jets, 13-10, in rain-soaked Foxborough, Mass. on Thursday night. The Jets (1-1) had an opportunity to tie or win the game on their final possession, but quarterback Geno Smith threw his third interception of the night. He finished with 214 passing yards.

As New England defensive back Aqib Talib returned Smith's final interception with 38 seconds to play, he was tackled low by Jets' center Nick Mangold, leading to a scuffle that saw New York's Willie Colon and D'Bricashaw Ferguson ejected.

Earlier, the Patriots (2-0) raced out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter before the teams settled in for a chippy evening of football as sloppy as the weather in which it was played. The rain came down in earnest in the second half, leading to several dropped passes and a lack of offense for both teams. The Jets got a 3-yard touchdown run from Bilal Powell in the third quarter, but they were unable to get any closer than the final score.
