I don't know about you, but, mentally, I feel like I've been dragged through the mud by my feet across a rocky field, and then had the experience repeated a few times.

It is past time for this election to be over. I feel dirty all the time.

I voted. Every eligible person in my family voted.

Yes, I care very much who dwells in the White House after the Obama family. I am concerned about who our leader will be through the the economic and international challenges our country faces.

And I realized how mired down I have become in all of this political drama, how much of my energy it is consuming. I'm not alone. More than half of Americans feel the same way. So much so, there is now a diagnosed condition called "election stress disorder." Seriously.

It's time to clean all this mess off and get back to being one nation again.

John Denver wisely said (and I must agree):

Music does bring people together. It allows us to experience the same emotions. People everywhere are the same in heart and spirit.

In that spirit, here are some of my suggestions. Feel free to add your own and create

a "Makes Me Feel Better" playlist on your phone. Music, as they say, is a great way to soothe the soul.

  • "Blessed"

    Martina McBride

I can think of so many ways that I have been blessed. When I hear this song and Martina's beautiful voice singing it, my heart smiles.

  • "Humble & Kind"

    Tim McGraw

Tim kept this song in his "library" for a long time before deciding he could record it and do it justice. He recorded and released it at the perfect time. I think we all need it right now.

  • "How Great Thou Art"

    Carrie Underwood featuring Vince Gill

Sometimes, I know I need a reminder that God is much bigger than anything and anyone. Whatever happens, He is GREAT!

  • "Don't Blink"

    Kenny Chesney

It's not just "don't blink." It's also "pay attention." I know I've gotten so enveloped by all this political hoopla, I have some days lost focused of what really counts.

  • "God Gave Me You"

    Blake Shelton

I may be biased because Blake is one of my favorites, but this song is just one of those songs. It makes you think of your "honey," your beautiful child, or someone really special in your life. As you listen to it, remember that your focus doesn't need to be on some big white mansion on the east coast. Fix that energy on the person or those people that are real blessings in your life.

  • "Beer With Jesus"

    Thomas Rhett

Maybe what you need to shake off the election spatter is just sit quietly. And have a beer with Jesus. What would you say? Pick a spot, pop a top, and have a chat. I promise. He'll listen.
