He is the master of word play. He is the bane of every English student in the country. He is The Bard, William Shakespeare and today we honor him in a whacky sort of way.

If you've ever been to a Shakespeare play it's probably taken you more than a few minutes to adjust your ears to the words the actors are speaking.  Language has changed a lot since Shakespeare brought us his many works but today, we celebrate that language by speaking his tongue.

Today is Talk Like Shakespeare Day. It's also his birthday so that's as good a day as any to start whipping a few 'thee's and 'thou's into your normal speech pattern. Just imagine the fun you will have busting up on a little Billy Shakespeare during your order at the drive through window today?

If you're not sure exactly how to go about talking like Shakespeare, you will be pleased to know there are several very helpful websites to help you achieve that lofty goal. One of my favorite suggestions is to drop the curse words for today and concentrate on calling n'er do wells jackanapes, canker blossoms, or bunch back'd toads. You'd have to admit that would catch the attention of any idiot at least for a moment.

If you really want to get into this whole Shakespeare thing, here's a video for you that will have you going full-tilt bard in no time.
