The unofficial peak of the hurricane season doesn't arrive for another week. So it's really no surprise that a new tropical depression has formed in the warm waters of the Tropical Atlantic ocean.

The system has been under scrutiny for a few days from the Hurricane Center in Miami and today forecasters found enough evidence to classify the system as Tropical Depression 5. The current forecast track of the system should keep it over open water for at least the next few days.

If the forecast models are correct we could be looking at a category 1 hurricane in the Caribbean Sea by early next week. Should the system strengthen to Tropical Storm status it will be given the name Ernesto.
