An area of disturbed weather that has migrated across the tropical Atlantic Ocean toward the Windward Islands is now in a favorable environment for further development. According the National Hurricane Center, this system could be classified as a tropical depression as early as today, but most likely over the weekend.

Should the storm continue to intensify it would become the third named storm of the 2014 Hurricane Season. The name given to that storm would be Cristobal.  The latest statistics from the Hurricane Center show the system slowly getting stronger as it moves toward the northwest. On this track gusty winds and heavy rains could affect Puerto Rico and the island of Hispaniola over the weekend.

Tropical forecast models are in fairly good agreement that the system should pose no threat to the Gulf of Mexico or the Louisiana coastline. The current guidance suggest that system will more than likely take a more northerly turn over the next few days and remain out to sea for the duration.
