It was a piece of evidence left at the scene and some outstanding police work that has resulted in the arrest of two people who are believed involved in a fatal hit and run accident in St. Mary Parish. The accident in March took the life of  Kista L. Sedotal of Jeanerette. It is believed that Sedotal was struck twice as she walked along Highway 182 the night of the accident.

Louisiana State Police spokesman Master Trooper Brooks David told the Louisiana Radio Network,

A key piece of evidence was a broken light that was left on the roadway after she was struck and that led troopers to believe that it was a Dodge pickup truck.

Authorities linked that broken light to a vehicle driven by 46 year old Brian Timken of New Iberia. It is believed that Timken's vehicle was the first to strike Sedotal.  Authorities then believe Sedotal was struck again by a vehicle driven by 25 year old Kayla Norris of Franklin.

Authorities later discovered that Norris thought she had hit an animal but when she returned to the scene and saw law enforcement on site she did not stop. She has been charged with hit and run. Timken is facing charges of hit and run and obstruction of justice in connection with the incident.

Master Trooper David reminds motorist of their responsibilities on the roadway. He says if you hit something you should always stop.

You never know what you hit.  You want to stop and make sure, first of all, that it isn't a person that you struck and that there is no damage to your vehicle.
