BASTROP, La. (AP) — Authorities say two children died in a Bastrop house fire after being left home unattended.

State Fire Marshal Deputy Chief Brant Thompson tells The News-Star investigators discovered the bodies of a 4-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy in a two-bedroom home Monday afternoon.

Thompson said the children's mother, 21-year-old Ciarra Johnson, said she left her daughter, Tashae Thompson Johnson, and her son, Clifton Johnson, in the house about 1:30 p.m. to get her hair done.

Thompson says there are many possible causes. The official cause is unknown, but investigators feel secure the fire started near a gas space heater in the living room area.
