Two Dead After Car Crashes Into School Playground In New Iberia

The Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says a driver crashed into the playground of Center Street Elementary school around 1:30 this morning.

Of the two people in the car, deputies say one person died at the scene of the crash, and the other person died at an area hospital.

The driver of the car, a 27-year-old man and his passenger a 29-year-old man, died as a result of the crash.

Deputies are not yet releasing their names until next of kin have been notified.

The crash happened in the 1600 Block of Julia Street, New Iberia.

Routine toxicology tests are pending.
