Danielle Price and Dora Chandler will receive the Governor's Outstanding Leadership in Disabilities (GOLD) Awards Wednesday in Baton Rouge. These were two of seven people who were honored locally on October 17 to recognize individuals and organizations which have improved the community for all people with disabilities.

Price, who is the Director of the Options Program at St. Thomas More High School, was nominated locally for the Educator of the Year Award by Sherry Moore of Louisiana Rehabilitation Services. Chandler, a caregiver to Lynette Fontenot for the past eight years, won in the Direct Support Professional of the Year category. Fontenot nominated her.

Other local winners that were nominated for the statewide GOLD awards were:

  • Marilyn Martin---Distinguished Merit Award
  • Maria Lynette Fontenot---Outstanding Individual with a Disability
  • Chancey Charles—Youth of the Year
  • The Marcel Family---Family of the Year
  • Flowers Bakery---Employer of the Year

“I say every year that our local awards ceremony is one of the most inspirational days of my year," says Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel. "I am grateful that each year I get introduced to an amazing group of people making Lafayette a better place every day by how they live and work. I am also glad that this year again, we can congratulate two statewide recipients on their awards. They will represent Lafayette in Baton Rouge well this week."
