The 20th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns clinched their opening Sun Belt Conference series on Sunday.

Louisiana captured the rubber game of a three-game, weekend, league series, defeating the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, 4-2, in Conway, South Carolina.

The Cajuns, who played their first three true road games of the season in the series, split a doubleheader with Coastal Carolina on Saturday, winning the first game, 4-2, before dropping the second game, 4-2.

UL, who now has won 38-consectutive conference series', last lost one in 2013, to South Alabama.

Coastal Carolina got on the scoreboard first, scoring a run in the bottom half of the first inning, when Courtney Dean belted a two-out solo home run, her fourth of the season, to give them a quick 1-0 lead.

Louisiana took the lead in the top half of the second inning, scoring two runs on three hits, including a run-scoring single from Aeriyl Mass, to give them a 2-1 advantage.

The Cajuns added another run in the top half of the 5th inning, when Kara Gremillion began the frame with a single, before later scoring on a sacrifice-fly off the bat of Lexie Comeaux, to widen their lead to 3-1.

Louisiana would extend their lead even more in the top half of the 6th inning, when Casidy Chaumont crushed a solo homer to centerfield, her 4th of the season, to make it 4-1.

The Chanticleers got closer in the bottom half of the 6th inning, when Dean hit a solo homer, her second of the game, and fifth of the year, while tallying the fifth solo homer of the series by Coastal Carolina, as they trimmed the deficit to 4-2

It wasn't enough however, as UL went on to the 2-run triumph, and the series win, in which every game was decided by a score of 4-2.

Louisiana, who outhit Coastal Carolina, 8-3, was paced at the plate by Chaumont, who homered, while Kara Gremillion and Kelli Martinez collected two hits apiece .

In a losing cause for Coastal Carolina, Dean homered twice.

Casey Dixon (4-1) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, allowing two runs on three hits, in her second complete-game effort.

Kaitlyn Beasley-Polko (6-6) suffered the loss for the Chanticleers, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits in 5.0 innings of work.

With the victory, Louisiana improved to 14-6,overall, and 2-1 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Coastal Carolina fell to 14-10, and 1-2, respectively.

Louisiana returns to the diamond on Thursday night, when they play host to the FIU Golden Panthers in a non-conference tilt at Lamson Park.

First-pitch is set for the Iowa game is set for 6 o'clock.
