The 18th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns opened their fourth weekend of play by dropping a non-conference tilt.

Louisiana fell to the Michigan Wolverines, 3-1, in their first game in the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, California.

The Wolverines scored the first three runs of the game, all in the first two innings, and never looked back, en route to the 3-1 victory.

Michigan got on the scoreboard first, scoring a run in the top half of the first inning, when Faith Canfield belted the first pitch of the game over the leftfield fence, to give them a quick 1-0 lead.

The Wolverines plated two more runs, both unearned, in the top half of the second inning, when Canfield drove home two runs with a two-out single, to widen their lead to 3-0.

Louisiana scored their only run of the game in the bottom half of the 6th inning, when Kara Gremillion began the frame with a leadoff single, before later scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Casidy Chaumont, to trim the deficit to 3-1.

That would be all UL could muster however, as Michigan went on to the 2-run triumph.

Michigan, who outhit Louisiana, 7-5 was paced at the plate by Canfield, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs batted in.

In a losing cause for UL, Chaumont accumulated the only RBI.

Tera Blanco (3-1) recorded the win in the circle for the Wolverines, allowing one run on two hits over 4.0 innings of relief.

Meghan Beaubien pitched one inning of perfect relief to record her first save of the season.

Summer Ellyson (2-2) suffered the loss for the Cajuns, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits in 1.2 innings of work.

With the victory, Michigan improved to 12-6, while Louisiana dropped to 11-4.

Louisiana returns to the diamond on Saturday, when they ace both Friday when they Iowa and Michigan St. in the second day of play in the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, California.

First-pitch is set for the Iowa game is set for 7:30 pm, with the game against Michigan St. slated for 10 o'clock.
