Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun softball fell on the road in NCAA Super Regional action on Thursday evening, falling to the Oklahoma Sooners, 8-2, at Marita Hynes Field at the OU Softball Complex in Norman, Oklahoma.

Oklahoma, who extended their current win streak to 26 games, used three multi-run innings, two homers, and the stellar pitching of ace left-hander Paige Porter to help them to the 6-run victory.

The win gives the Sooners, the #3 National Seed, a 1-0 advantage over the 14th-seeded Cajuns in the best-of-three games series.

Game two is scheduled for Friday night at 6 o'clock.

If Oklahoma, who is appearing in their 7th-consecutive Super Regional, wins, they would advance to the Women's College World Series, scheduled to begin next week in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Should Louisiana, appearing in their 5th-straight Super Regional, and 7th in the last 9 years, is victorious, they would force an "if necessary" game, which would be played at approximately 9 pm on Friday night.

Louisiana got on the scoreboard first, when junior second baseman Hayley Hayden blasted a solo home run on the second pitch of the game, her 8th of the season, giving them a quick 1-0 lead.

Oklahoma answered back however, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the first inning, two of them unearned, while scoring on run-scoring singles by Fale Aviu, Kady Self, and Lea Wodach, to grab a 3-1 advantage.

The Sooners widened their lead in the bottom half of the second inning, when Aviu delivered a clutch two-out, two-run double, her second and third RBI's of the game, to extend their lead to 5-1.

The Cajuns trimmed the deficit in the top half of the sixth inning, when senior catcher Lexie Elkins belted a solo homer, her 19th of the season, to make the score 5-2.

Oklahoma put the game away in the bottom half of the 6th inning, scoring three times, including a two-run home run by Callie Clifton, followed by a solo shot by Sydney Romero, to make it 8-2.

Louisiana put a base runner on in the top half of the 7th inning, but could do no more, as Oklahoma went on to win the first game of the series, 8-2.

Oklahoma, who outhit Louisiana, 14-6, was led at the plate by Erin Miller, who recorded three hits and scored twice, Aviu, who went 2-for-4, to go along with a double, and three runs batted in, and Clifton, who went 3-for-4 with a home run.

In a losing cause for Louisiana, Hayden and Elkins accounted for both runs, each with a solo homer, while Kara Gremillion went 3-for-3.

Parker (32-3) recorded the win in the circle for the Sooners, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 7, without a walk.

Junior right-hander Alex Stewart (29-5) suffered the loss for the Cajuns, allowing 8 runs on 14 hits in 6 innings of work.

With the victory, Oklahoma improved to 51-7, while Louisiana fell to 46-8.
