Vince Gill has been nominated for songwriting's most prestigious honor: induction into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame. Gill is one of 12 performing songwriters up for induction into the Hall of Fame, which which recognizes composers and lyricists from all over the world, in 2017.

Throughout his career, as both a solo artist and a member of Pure Prairie League and the Time Jumpers, Gill has written and performed some of country music's most-loved songs, from "Don't Let Our Love Start Slippin' Away" to "One More Last Chance."  Gill is the only country artist to be nominated for induction in the Songwriters Hall of Fame's Performing Songwriters category in 2017; other nominees include Jay Z, Madonna, Chicago and Gloria Estefan.

Along with Gill, three well-known Nashville names are also on the list of potential inductees, under the Non-Performing Songwriters category: Randy Goodrum ("You Needed Me," performed by Anne Murray), Max Martin ("Shake It Off," performed by Taylor Swift) and Paul Overstreet ("Forever and Ever, Amen," performed by Randy Travis) are all nominated for induction into the Hall of Fame in 2017 as well.

Eligible Songwriters Hall of Fame members have until Dec. 16 to cast their ballots for the Class of 2017. Members can vote for up to three nominees in the Non-Performing category and two from the Performing category. Winners will be announced at the Hall of Fame's annual induction and awards gala, set to take place on June 15 in New York City.
