Vitter Announces $1.4 Million In Grants To Reduce Violent Crime In Louisiana

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) has announced that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is awarding $1,432,923 in grants to reduce violent crime and increase safety throughout Louisiana.

“Keeping our neighborhoods safe is absolutely critical, and it starts with making sure our communities have the preparation and resources they need,” Vitter said. “These grants support positive efforts that reduce violence and support victims.”

The grants are listed below:

• $650,000 to the Louisiana Department of Justice to improve community response to sexual assault and increase victim services in the Capital Region.
• $299,999 to Ouachita Parish to support development of the Family Justice Center of Ouachita, a victims’ service and support center.
• $150,000 to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office to reduce gang and gun violence in Baton Rouge.
• $149,788 to the New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation, Inc. to reduce gang and gun violence in New Orleans.
• $79,547 to the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement to reduce and prosecute sexual abuse at its seven institutions.
• $103,589 to the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement to improve forensic science and medical examiner services and eliminate backlogs in the analysis of forensic evidence.
