It takes money to make money and it also takes money to get elected. That's true of a school board race, a mayor's race, a congressional race and the governor's race too. United States Senator David Vitter's campaign announced that their campaign coffers have raised over $4 million to support their candidate.

One political analyst, Jeremy Alford of lapolitics.com, says that number is impressive but the Vitter camp is not telling the whole truth about just how well-greased the Senator's campaign really is.

"Vitter's actually sitting on $8 million. There's a Super PAC that is supporting his bid for governor. They cannot coordinate, but it is very clear that 'The Fund for Louisiana's Future' is going to be spending money on David Vitter's campaign"

Mr. Alford's comments were reported in a story published by the Louisiana Radio Network.

For those who understand campaign finance, which is really nobody I know, Vitter might have access to even more money through his Senate campaign. Although that money can not legally be used to fund his run for governor, it can be donated to a PAC, or political action committee, that can in turn spend the money on the governor's race.

It was reported earlier that candidate Scott Angelle has raised $1.5 million dollars and Democrat John Bel Edwards has raised over $1 million dollars.  Even though these numbers represent a lot of money, they pale in comparison to what Vitter's campaign has been able to generate.  Many pundits believe this year's run for Governor will be one of, if not the most expensive in the state's history.

Voters will go to the poll to elect a governor on Saturday October 24th.
