It is obvious that Season 8 of The Voice on NBC will be yet another great season. There is so much talent, including some local folks who made it through the blind auditions. South Louisiana proud!

You know I'm always behind on everything, so it makes sense that I recorded the first couple of weeks of the show and started watching this past weekend. There was one young man that really caught my attention.

On the season premiere, Cody Wickline (who looks a lot like a young Tim McGraw) took the stage, guitar in hand and began singing 'He Stopped Loving Her Today' by the late George Jones. The song was what initially caught my attention, but when I heard his voice, I was truly captured.

I think what I love so much about Cody is that we don't hear that kind of voice much anymore in country music. He sounds like an old soul. Singing a George Jones song is like trying to pull off a Whitney Houston hit, it's quite difficult to accomplish. George had a sound all his own, but Cody really impressed me.

Not shown in this video is Blake Shelton's response to Cody's performance. In short, Blake said that 'He Stopped Loving Her Today' was probably the most important song in country music in the last 60 years. He also said that he could hear some Merle Haggard in Cody's voice. I agree 100%. I love this performance and thought I would share for those who did not get to see it on television. This young man will go far in the country music industry, if not the competition.
