By the end of August, six Wal-Mart Supercenters in Louisiana will be dropping six hours from their 24/7 operating schedule.

Those stores will now be open from 6am until midnight.

The stores affected will include two in Lafayette, the Ambassador Caffery location along with the one on the Evangeline Thruway. The other four stores are in New Iberia, Opelousas, Baton Rouge and Monroe.

The reduction in hours aren't just happening in Louisiana. Company spokesman Brian Nick says about 200 of the chain's 4,500 stores in the United States also will open for fewer hours each day.

Nick says the reduced hours will allow staff to get stores in good shape for customers the following day.

Conventional wisdom would also lend most to believe that those hours aren't profitable enough for the megastore.
